Messi snatch 4th FIFA Ballon d’Or, Spanish players mark the year

Sorry for really late update, but I was sick in bed struggling and recovering from pandemic flu in the past week!

So hopefully you heard the news?! that Lionel Messi, as highly expected here and in other football/soccer media outlets, snatched his 4th Ballon d’Or Player of the Year Award. The reason was crystal clear as mentioned in previous blog post here about his astonishing football records throughout the year 2012.

In women’s category of best Player of the Year, USA National team star, Abby Wambach scooped the 2012 Award.

In coaching category, Spain National team coach, Del Bosque was awarded because of his team’s victorious Euro 2012 Championship, and in women’s category, Swedish-native USA team manager, Pia Sundhag won the award.

As for Best team of the year, Spanish players were the creme of the crop in FIFA’s final list with all 11 players plying their trade in La Liga, and 8 of those players were of Spanish origin. The exceptions were Argentine Lionel Messi, Portuguese Christian Ronaldo, and Brazilian Marcelo. Also 10 out of 11 players were selected from Barcelona and Real Madrid teams.

The list of 11 best players did raise some eyebrows on FIFA’s bias towards Spanish players, considering that a lot of competitive teams and players of Bundesliga, Serie-A and EPL awed pundits during Champions League and at Euro Cup in 2012.

In a week time, Im hoping to write a review article on Asian teams featuring in Asian Cup Qualifiers, and as soon as its published on, I will post it here.

In the mean time, keep active and kick the ball rolling ladies and gentlemen!
